Is it me or is it happening?
I believe that yellow is the new pink; in fact I start believing more and more that it will indeed happen. When our followers submit their yellow images for Trend Tablet’s mood board on Pinterest, I see that many people agree with me. I am very happy since I love yellow at this point, even though it is not always easy to wear. I’d like to have a bright yellow coat as we would wear in the 80’s, yet haven't seen anything yet; maybe have to wait some years more…
Springtime is the yellow fever in the garden with narcissus and forsythia and two weeks later with mimosa; all harbingers of spring. Spring brings this irrepressible energy that invites us to spring-clean, throwing out old clothes and objects to make space for new impulses and new colours. Then comes the period of sunflowers and mustard fields and corn; all beautiful colours to landscape our country wardrobes. These yellow flowers and cereals will influence fashion and patterns (and especially men’s fashions) for the seasons to come, they will accumulate different tones of yellow flower colours as if they were new neutrals, further developing our taste for sun and moon!
The fabrics that will carry our yellow further will be canvas, linen and piqué jerseys for polo shirts. As well as colourwovens and patterns, patterns and more patterns.
In this way, the men’s wardrobe becomes sundrenched and happy, witnessing an urgent need within the consumer’s soul to bring optimism in existence.
Let's further pollinate the power of yellow!
To be continued…

They fascinated us by their methodical arrangements of assorted objects to create new ones. Even if it's really a strict and considerable precise work process, for a really geometric outcome, we feel liberty and poetry when we look at it. They show us a new way to see objects and photography. Just as Charles and Ray Eames introduced a new way to see design years ago. The similarly between them is not just to be visionary, even in the way of working you can see it : Eames used to say "Art resides in the quality of doing, process is not magic" and "Design is a plan for arranging elements in such a way as best to accomplish a particular purpose."
Their last serie "Detail in Reverse" show us one more time the magic touch they have: create, with the immaterial process of photography, objects by illusion. They transformed common household draperies or stacked goblets made of cheap, reflective plastic or basics tins in pictures of sacred and decorated vessels."After all, anything created solely for the camera is a projection. If the various props used here appear to be of great monetary value while in fact being nearly worthless the viewer will come away deceived. But it is up to the viewer to explore his own projections and transform his own disillusion into an analytic quest for the true nature of the photographic. To this end, the artists really offer more than enough clues in the form of tapestries which bring optical illusion and the reversal of handicraft as a counterpoint to the fore." Very well explained by Frank van der Stok on their website's introduction.
If photography is just about capture moments to keep them, it is the best demonstration!

HUMANNESS IN HI-TECHNOLOGY

Now that we are living in the 21st century, we e-mail between distant countries, and receive plenty of information everyday on our tablets. Travel to space is now part of the reality, and robots are becoming important, not only in factories, but also in our daily life. But still, hi-technology does not really allow you to express your feeling enough .
Even if we can send our e-mail and it reaches the receiver immediately just after the click( can you imagine if you send a letter by post, it takes another 1-2 days at least!), we are not sure if the e-mail tells exactly what we feel.
The younger generation who is always specialist to create new language, invents characters using some letters from English and from Russian, to create new marks and codes.
If you want to say, “Saturday night is fine for me to go out for drink with you!’ Then you put a smiley at the end of the sentence. We all know:) or ;( those signs are simple ones, but what is significant is that there are thousand of smiley variations using all kinds of letters from different languages, which are all in our iPhone. You can say super happy to normal happy, so-so and sometimes bitter smile. Then the receiver imagines senders feeling more clearly.
I also found there are many ideas to customize robot vacuum that automatically cleans rooms. It is one of the best selling house electronics products in Japan. It is quite convenient but again, we, as human being, want to put an adorable character on this machine. So, what happens is that people starts to put a puppet as cover on the robot vacuum and gives it a name! Suddenly the machine becomes your pet in your life. The development of the technology is getting very fast, it changes our life dramatically but at the same time, we realize how much we need to feel the humanness and adorable character with everything we have in our life.
This is maybe the wonderful balance sense of human being. Using high-technology, we are reaching to the unknown charm of analogue world.

FASHION DESIGNERS WITHOUT BORDERS
|
|
photo "garment graffiti" by thomas voorn |
Chrissie Lam, a senior concept designer at US retail brand American Eagle Outfitters for twelve years, always wanted to connect her passion for fashion, adventure and philanthropy.
After taking a sabbatical from her design position to go to Rwanda and explore clothing craftsmanship, she decided to launch The Supply Change, a network whose purpose is to alleviate extreme poverty by connecting artisans in emerging economies with the global market place.
Chrissie explains: “We are curating experiences and enlisting like-minded design colleagues in order to help them realize the potential of sourcing in developing countries. I believe change comes from within a company, and currently there is a disconnect between people in the design industry and social enterprises/artisan groups abroad. If design professionals can connect with great organizations, meet the artisans, witness the social impact and be inspired by the local resources, they are more likely to return to their companies with enthusiasm and the knowledge to advocate for a brand-social enterprise collaboration. We want to create ambassadors – ambassadors that can influence change within their companies and raise awareness and action through real stories and word-of-mouth experiences.”
The venture, she ads, is not a non-profit, for it is meant to bring resources to those involved.
The Supply Change has partnered with travel agency Extraordinary Journeys to create unique travel programs under the name of Fashion Designers Without Borders. The first program will be held in Kenya on February 16-23, 2013 and will educate and connect participants with artisan social enterprises hat work with brands like Edun, Suno, Puma, Max Mara, Whole Foods and others. A second trip will be organized in March 2013 in Guatemala.
Even though only a few weeks old, The Supply Change is receiving great press and support from medias. The public is ready; now the corporate world is definitely in need for change, not only the merchandise but the job positions themselves have become so boring that business as usual can no longer be sustained.
Thanks to the relevance in timing of this start-up, and through the passion of its founder, this venture will go a long way; Edelkoort Inc is happy to support. Good luck!

VILA SELVAGEM

In the state of Ceará, Brazil, there is a small village by the sea named Pontal de Maceio located an hour and 40 minutes from Fortaleza. In this small village there is a cozy hotel with only 15 rooms : Vila Selvagem. The owner is a French young man who came to Brazil with his father to completely change their lives and, step by step change the life of the place. They welcome you with a freshly open coconut and a straw. Just drink the water from the fruit at the perfect smooth temperature, after two hours in a car you could not ask for anything more delightful.
Around you, there is nothing but the hotel and a few local "cabanas", where you can eat fresh fish while looking at the sea with your feet in the sand. It is a long and quiet beach, very windy, which invites you to kite surfing. You cannot miss the typical tapioca, the locally delicious fish and obviously, the coconut water. Depending on the season you can have lobster as well!
Canoa Quebrada, a famous tourist destination, is just at a few kilometers. The beauty is not Canoa Quebrada itself, but the journey to go there through spectacular dunes, desert beaches, local donkeys, majestic aeolic energy devices, everything is under an amazing dreamy blue sky.You can also ride horse on the beach in a very cinematographic scenario. At the nearest village you will find local women doing their "labirinto" : beautifully crafted towels, sheets and clothes, that you do not find anywhere else.

A RESISTIBLE FORCE
This book is a richly illustrated book about the ancient breakwaters that have protected the coast of Zeeland, in the Netherlands, since the fifteenth century. Gathering a wealth of documents from private and public collections, and illustrating these with her own artwork, Van Lynden tells a personal story of discovery through the history of an ancient system of coastal protection and its role in both our cultural heritage and our increasing concern to find a balance between man and the sea.
